A Radnor firefighter and a police officer rescue Annette Short from a burning apartment. At the time this was captured she didn't know where her two children were, hence her frantic expression. The children were already out safely.

The was a bit of a moral dilemma publishing this image. Her husband worked as a pressman at the paper and the managing editor argued we couldn't publish it because of this. I argued back we HAD to publish it because of this -- or we'd be doing a diservice to everyone we'd ever shown in a similiar position. Much to her credit, the managing editor agreed with that and the image ran page one.
